Patachou was born as Henriette Ragon on 10 June 1918. Born and brought up in Paris she had many jobs, including typist, shop assistant and antique dealer before, in 1948, with her husband Jean Billon, she opened a night club in Montmarte called Patachou. She began her singing career here and journalists gave her the name Patachou after the establishment. A mentor to many younger singers she was principally known as an international vocalist but made a handful of films before her death in 2015. She also starred in The Adventures of Felix (2000).
