John Trengove

John Trengove was born in 1978 and currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa. After studying at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York, he directed television, documentaries and commercials. His short film The Goat premiered at the 2014 Berlinale Film Festival and subsequently screened at over 40 film festivals worldwide. He has worked on a number of Television series, directing eight episodes of The Lab and the entirety of the miniseries Hopeville, which was nominated for both an international Emmy and two African Movie Academy Award nominations including best picture and best screenplay. He also works as a theatre director and his stage play ‘The Epicene Butcher‘ won the Amsterdam Fringe Festival award for best international production. Trengove’s debut feature film The Wound opened to ecstatic reviews at Sundance and Berlin and won the Sutherland trophy for Best First Feature at the BFI London Film Festival.
