Jayne Mansfield

One of the leading sex symbols of the 1950s and 1960s, film actress Jayne Mansfield was born on April 19, 1933 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the United States . A talented and intelligent actress, Jayne moved to Hollywood in the 1950s and began to star in a number of roles – often playing characters that showcased her body – and became known as the poor man’s Marilyn Monroe. Despite never receiving a break-out performance, she remained prominent throughout the 1950s.

By the turn of the century her career options became more limited; she was dropped from 20th Century Fox and began to star in more B and low-budget movies.

In the early hours of June 29, 1967, Mansfield, her partner and her driver were killed in a car accident outside of New Orleans, her children in the back-seat survived.
