Description

From the director of ‘Summer Storm’ comes an impeccably crafted sword and sorcery fantasy set in a stunning Alpine backdrop that rivals Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth. Starring David Kross (The Reader, War Horse), Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Robert Stadlober (Summer Storm). Based on the best-selling novel by Otfried Preussler.

Medieval Europe has been decimated by the Thirty Years War and the Plague. Krabat, a fourteen year old orphan lives on the margins of society, travelling from village to village to beg out a meagre existence. Life is relentlessly grim, until Krabat’s dreams direct him to a remote Mill. The Mill Keeper offers him the chance to stay, and Krabat readily accepts only to find himself drawn into a world of magic and dark arts. His new found powers are intoxicating but fellow apprentice Tonda warns him to leave.  As dark secrets are revealed, the mood becomes ominous and Krabat knows he must escape. Only by enlisting the help of a local village girl can he hope to elude the forces of Evil… but is it too late?

  • "Boasting darn fine FX, a charismatic Heath Ledger-lookalike as its young lead and a feel that’s half Lord Of The Rings, half Gilliam-esque fairytale, this German fantasy is well worth a look"
